Community Online
One of my favorite sites online is Digg.com. The site does not work without a community, which I have always liked. Users submit content, and as other users read it, if they feel that it is valid, then they can ‘Digg’ it, and as stories receive more Diggs, they begin to hit the homepage and become even more popular.
Digg grabbed the ‘geek niche’ back when it was launched in 2004 by former TechTV host, Kevin Rose along with a few others. It has gradually picked up steam and become a very popular spot on the internet.
The community on Digg is (in)famous for sticking up for their comrades, one instance coming last year when user Jesse McFearson’s XBox360, Television, and Laptop were stolen, Digg users banded together and found the person who stole them. Some of the tactics were…questionable. But Jesse Got his things back, as seen on his blog here.
